When the Pittsburgh Steelers selected former Penn State quarterback Drew Allar in the third round of the 2026 NFL draft, it came as something of a shock. Not just to fans but Allar himself who is a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan and didn't seem at all excited about the pick. Nevertheless, Allar showed up and has gone through all of the Steelers offseason workouts.
>But he's done it all without a contract. Allar is the only member of the Steelers 2026 draft class who hasn't signed his rookie contract. This will be a problem if it isn't resolved by the start of training camp because league rules state Allar cannot practice if he isn't under contract.
>It would behoove Allar to get that deal done in the next month so he doesn't lose any more ground to second-year quarterback Will Howard in the quarterback position battle. Howard has looked sharp in minicamps while Allar is having his lower body mechanics retooled by new head coach Mike McCarthy. Lost time at training camp will do Allar no favors if he wants to push for the backup job behind Aaron Rodgers.
