Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly reached out to Piero Ausilio, who is preparing to end his impressive 28-year career at Inter Milan as their highly respected sporting director.

>According to Italian transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà, Spurs are one of several clubs that have contacted Ausilio about his future. The 54-year-old is set to leave Inter when his contract ends, closing a chapter that started when he joined their academy in 1998.

>Ausilio worked in several roles before becoming sporting director in 2010, then taking charge of Inter’s technical department in 2014. Reports say he and the club agreed on his departure, and he is looking for a new challenge.

>Tottenham Hotspur will likely be interested in Ausilio’s strong track record in recruitment, as the North London club continue the search for their next Sporting Director following the exit of Fabio Paratici at the end of January to join Serie A side Fiorentina.

>While leading Inter’s transfer strategy, he helped sign key players such as Lautaro Martinez, Nicolò Barella, Alessandro Bastoni, Achraf Hakimi, and Romelu Lukaku, who all played major roles in the club’s success, including the club treble under former Spurs head coach José Mourinho.

>Lautaro grew from a talented Racing Club forward into Inter’s captain and one of Europe’s top strikers. Barella and Bastoni became key players for both Inter and Italy. Lukaku helped Inter win the 2020/21 Serie A title before being sold to Chelsea for a large profit, and Hakimi also brought in a big return when he moved to Paris Saint-Germain.

>Ausilio has also shown his talent I.D when signing free agents. Hakan Çalhanoğlu joined from AC Milan and became a top deep-lying midfielder. André Onana arrived for free from FC Barcelona and was later sold to Manchester United for a huge profit, while Marcus Thuram quickly made an impact after leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach.

>Other important signings under Ausilio include Stefan de Vrij, Denzel Dumfries, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Francesco Acerbi. These deals helped Inter win several domestic trophies and reach two Champions League finals, all while managing tight finances that often forced the club to sell key players.

>Tottenham’s interest comes as the club continues to reorganise after Fabio Paratici left for Fiorentina earlier in 2026. Johan Lange is still an important part of the team, but Ausilio would bring valuable experience, a broad European network, and a proven record of building strong squads on a budget.

>Head Coach Roberto De Zerbi has previously been linked with Inter Milan, partly due to his relationship with the Nerazzurri's sporting director, so it’s likely that De Zerbi would be open to working with Ausilio in North London.

>After almost thirty years at San Siro, hiring Ausilio would be a major coup for Tottenham Hotspur.
