USC Pitching Coach Lands Lamar Head Coaching Job After 19-6 Regional Win

Over the weekend, USC baseball dominated Lamar 19-6 in the College Station Regional. Three days later, Lamar announced it was hiring USC pitching coach Sean Allen as the team’s new head coach.

>Allen is replacing former Lamar head coach Will Davis, who was hired as Houston’s new head coach last week.

We are excited for him as he will begin the next chapter of his fantastic coaching career.”

>USC hired Allen in June 2024 after he was named the 2021 National Assistant Coach of the Year. Prior to his stint with the Trojans, Allen was an assistant coach at Ohio State and Texas. He has made three Men’s College World Series appearances as an assistant coach.

>Under Allen’s guidance, southpaw Mason Edwards won the 2026 Big Ten Pitcher of the Year Award and was named a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist.

He is an outstanding coach, but an even better person.

>“I also want to thank Coach Jewett, Coach Brown, Coach Goose, Coach Jenkins, and all of our support staff. It has been an honor to learn from and work alongside each of you. The relationships and experiences we have shared will stay with me for the rest of my career. And to all of the players from the past two seasons, I hope I have had a small impact on your lives and careers. I can promise you that you have had a tremendous impact on me.”

Allen Will Coach USC Through the Rest of the SeasonUSC pulled off back-to-back victories over No. 11 national seed Texas A&M on Sunday and Monday to advance to their first super regional since 2005. If USC can win two games against No. 3 national seed UNC this weekend, the Trojans will earn a spot in the MCWS.
