Vote for Ames Tribune male Athlete of the Week for Sept. 20-26

The week of Sept. 20-26 was full of high school male sports action featuring all seven schools from the Ames area.

>It was Week 5 of Iowa High School football and all seven area schools were in action on Sept. 25.

>Ames dropped a 16-8 heartbreaker to Des Moines Roosevelt on homecoming night in Ames and Gilbert won its fourth in a row with a 27-3 home victory over Bondurant-Farrar. Ballard upset Class 4A No. 7 North Polk, 21-14, at Huxley, Nevada blanked Winterset on the road, 21-0, 2A No. 4 Roland-Story trounced Vinton-Shellsburg, 42-7, at Story City, Colo-NESCO fell at Clarksville, 66-18, and Collins-Maxwell suffered a 56-6 home loss to GMG.

>In high school boys cross country, Ames placed second at the Riverhawk Invitational on Sept. 22 in Mason City. Ballard competed at the ACGC Invitational on Sept. 24 in Guthrie Center.

>The Ames boys golf team placed fourth in a Little Hawkeye Conference quad meet on Sept. 24 at the Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.

>There were multiple standout individual performances from area male athletes during the week.

Gage Krogh, BallardKrogh came up huge on defense for the Ballard football team during its 21-14 upset victory over 4A No. 7 North Polk on Sept. 25 at Rich Strouse Field in Huxley.

>Krogh had three tackles and he intercepted two passes for the Bombers. He also made four receptions for 46 yards on offense.

Tayton Warg, GilbertWarg made the most of his five carries for the Gilbert football team during its 27-3 homecoming win over Bondurant-Farrar on Sept. 25 at Tiger Stadium in Gilbert.

>Warg ran for 87 yards on his five carries. He also scored two touchdowns for the Tigers to help them win their fourth win in a row.

Tyler Lambert, Roland-StoryLambert was a disruptive presence on defense for the 2A No. 4 Roland-Story football team during its 42-7 rout of Vinton-Shellsburg on Sept. 25 at Story City.

>The Norsemen linebacker made nine tackles. He had three stops behind the line, including a pair of sacks.

Braylen Chambers, AmesChambers was all over the field on defense, and he also came up big running the ball for the Ames football team during its 16-8 homecoming loss to Des Moines Roosevelt on Sept. 25 at the Ames High football stadium in Ames.

>Chambers racked up 14 tackles at linebacker, including 11 solo stops. He also was a workhorse on the lone Ames scoring drive, finishing the game with 76 yards and one touchdown rushing on 13 carries.

Trevor Nusbaum, NevadaNusbaum helped the Nevada boys cross country team take third at the ACGC Invitational on Sept. 24 in Guthrie Center.

>Nusbaum placed eighth individually with a 5-kilometer time of 17 minutes, 23.5 seconds.
