WCG Dynasty Fantasy Football: Assessing Adam Hess’ Roster

That means next week we are going to be pivoting to a lot of training camp coverage, which means we should wrap up our Dynasty Fantasy Football series this weekend. We have four teams left, so let’s dive in.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Adam Hess is the next roster we are going to assess. Adam has been a part of this league for several years, and his team has struggled over the last few years. Let’s see why he isn’t stacking wins and what he can do to improve.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Here’s the roster:

Let’s break it down, and let’s start with the QB room, where Adam has the best QB room in the league. The problem is, we only start one QB; this is not a Superflex. Adam, trade a quarterback! You’ll never get the value you want out of trading a QB, but Adam arguably has 3 QB1s on the roster, and two of them are on the bench every week. Pick a QB1 (he’ll pick Caleb), trade Stafford to a win-now team, and downgrade Lawrence to a QB2-level QB and maybe pick up an extra pick or another player in the process.

class="wp-block-paragraph">At RB, he starts with Jeanty, which is a great spot. I know Jeanty didn’t have the best rookie season, but even with that, he still compiled a pretty strong point total, and he should only improve. This league starts 2 RBs, and there isn’t a viable 2nd starter unless Coleman grabs the bull by the horns in Denver. You can absolutely start Sampson, Dobbins, or maybe even Allgeier in a pinch, but you can’t rely on any of them as an RB2 for a season.

class="wp-block-paragraph">The WR room has a lot of guys that are “pretty good.” I feel like this is one of those groups where you try to choose your lineup based on matchups and you inevitably fail to start someone every week that has a strong week. Unless McLaurin finds the magic again this year, this is a roster loaded with WR2s and WR3s that can score a decent number, but there just aren’t any big-time scorers here at an important position.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Now we get to the TE room, where again, we argue for the best TE room in the league. Adam has 4 startable TEs; unfortunately, we only start 1 to 2 TEs per week in this league. Make a trade, Adam! There are a lot of teams that have subpar TE rooms, and Adam has at least two to trade. Theo Johnson as your TE5 is also crazy. With the extra talent at TE and QB, you have to wonder why this team isn’t making more trades.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Let’s move over to the defense, where Adam has arguably the DT1 in the league in terms of fantasy in Jeffery Simmons. You only have to start 1 DT, but you can start more than that, and Adam used to have Madubuike as a dynamic duo. Can he get back to what he was two years ago? If he does, that changes this room a lot. Payne is solid, but those numbers will probably keep shrinking year over year at this point in his career.

class="wp-block-paragraph">The Edge room is strong. Parsons as your top edge is amazing. Byron Young as your DE2 is solid. Scourton going down certainly hurts the depth here, and there isn’t much depth behind those two, but it’s a solid duo as long as it’s healthy. It could certainly use one more Edge that scores more than his other available rotational guys, but he had that potential with Scourton, so tough to criticize less than a week after the injury.

class="wp-block-paragraph">The linebacker room is fine, but not spectacular. Cashman scores, but he’s 30, so you proceed with caution there. Overshown needs to recover and prove he can stay healthy, which has always been a challenge for him. Thomas and TooToo are good; perhaps they can improve, but I feel they are the players they will be at this point. Pace is just a guy. The room could use improvement, but it’s also functional and not a major concern.

class="wp-block-paragraph">The CB room works; I don’t see Stingley as a guy worth rostering based on CB scoring.

class="wp-block-paragraph">The safety room looks really good with Curl and Winfield up top and Moore, Joseph, and Metellus behind them.

class="wp-block-paragraph">I like the taxi squad. Simpson is a nice guy to have with Stafford on the roster. Lance and Thomas are nice developmental WRs. Woods and Louis have potential as well.

class="wp-block-paragraph">This team needs an RB2 and more high-end WRs, and it’s ready to compete. Without those, this is a middling-low-ceiling team because it doesn’t have enough offensive firepower. With the depth at QB and TE, where he could fix the issues on his roster, you have to wonder what Adam is waiting for.
