The 2026 FIFA World Cup is officially over as Spain lifted the trophy for the second time in its history.

>With the win, the Spaniards became the first nation to hold both the Men's and the Women's World Cup at the same time. They will do so for at least one year, when the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup begins in Brazil next summer.

>This will be the tenth edition of the Women's World Cup, first introduced in 1991. The United States have been the dominating force in the sport, winning four championships, followed by Germany with two, Norway with one and most recently Spain with its first one.

>The 32-team tournament is set to begin on June 24 and run through July 25. It will be the first time the Women's World Cup is held in Latin America, making Brazil the sixth country to host both the men's and the women's competition and the first to host eight different FIFA competitions.

>Fourteen teams have already qualified, including the host country. CONCACAF, the conference for North America, Central America and the Caribbean, has not yet hosted its qualifiers.

>The next men's major international tournament will be the Copa America, the Gold Cup, the African Cup of Nations and the Asian Cup all taking place in 2027. The EUROs will be played the following year. Many players will also represent their club teams in the UEFA Champions League, which happens annually.
