With the MLB trade deadline less than 30 hours away, the New York Yankees continue to search for ways to revive an injury-ravaged lineup. After losing Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and most recently Cody Bellinger, scoring runs has become an increasingly difficult task, making offensive reinforcements the club’s top priority.

>According to MLB insider Joel Sherman, the Yankees and Washington Nationals are discussing a trade that would bring slugger Luis Garcia Jr. to New York. The report also indicates that Double-A right-hander Jack Cebert has been a prominent name in the negotiations and could be part of the package heading to Washington.

Garcia Would Fill Multiple NeedsThe Yankees aren’t just looking for another bat—they’re looking for a hitter who can provide lineup flexibility, and Garcia checks both boxes.

>Although he has spent much of his career playing second base, Garcia also offers the versatility to serve as a designated hitter or fill in at first base. That defensive flexibility would give manager Aaron Boone multiple options while several regulars remain sidelined.

>At this point, however, New York’s biggest concern isn’t where Garcia would play—it’s getting his bat into the lineup.

Breakout Season Makes Garcia an Attractive TargetJul 8, 2026; Washington, District of Columbia, USA; Washington Nationals first baseman Luis Garcia Jr. (2) celebrates after hitting a home run with right fielder James Wood (29) against the Houston Astros during the fourth inning at Nationals Park. >He’s hitting .283 with 23 home runs and 76 RBIs, providing the type of middle-of-the-order production the Yankees have been missing since injuries decimated their lineup.

>Adding a hitter with that kind of production would immediately deepen New York’s offense and take some pressure off the remaining healthy regulars who have been carrying the load in recent weeks.

Jack Cebert is a Name to WatchWhile the Yankees are looking to improve their major league roster, the Nationals are expected to prioritize young talent as they continue building for the future.

>According to Sherman’s report, Jack Cebert has been discussed extensively between the two organizations. The talented Double-A starter could become one of the centerpieces of a potential deal if negotiations continue to progress.

>With the deadline quickly approaching, the Yankees appear determined to add offense before time runs out. Garcia’s combination of power, production, and positional versatility makes him an ideal fit for a team desperate for healthy hitters, while Washington could add another promising arm to its farm system.

>If the two sides can agree on the right package, this has the potential to be one of the more impactful trades involving the Yankees before the deadline.
