‘You’re a p-ssy’: Vergil Ortiz calls Xander Zayas a quitter, promises to knockout Boots Ennis

Vergil Ortiz scored a big knockout win over Erickson Lubin. | Getty Images Immediately follow last night’s big super welterweight fight where Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis stopped defending titleholder Xander Zayas in seven rounds to become a two-division unified champion, Vergil Ortiz popped up on social media to give his immediate reaction. Boy, was it harsh.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Right after Boots’ win, Ortiz would declare that he would assuredly knock Boots out whenever they meet, and also derided Zayas in the process for what he called a quit job after getting dropped for the three times in the fight.

In fact, Ortiz was originally meant to be the opponent for this very fight, but that couldn’t happen because of his promotional dispute. Recent interviews have quoted Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya saying things have been moving in a positive direction lately though, and he expects Ortiz to be back in the ring before the year is out.
