Perhaps one of the most entertaining and touching interactions during the Milwaukee Brewers championship celebration came between first baseman Jake Bauers and manager Pat Murphy, starting when Bauers presented Murphy with the ball that served as the last out of the game.

>Bauers, of course, was standing on first base when Brice Turang threw over to retire Rays infielder Richie Palacios, the final out that clinched a 4-1 win at Tropicana Field and a World Series triumph, four games to one.

>"You're going to be a rich f***er," Murphy said with a wry smile to the free-agent-to-be. "Just remember when you're on that horsesh** Yankees team and you guys are all playing for yourselves, just remember, this is the way we used to do it."

— Baseball Is Dead (@baseballisdead_) October 29, 2026Bauers laughed but shot back, "You ain't getting rid of me that easy."

>The Brewers will indeed have to pay up to keep Bauers. The NLCS MVP led the team with 26 homers in the regular season, two years removed from signing a minor-league deal with the Brewers. He told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the decision to return and eschew retirement hinged largely on the need for health insurance when his wife informed him she was pregnant.

>He made $2.7 million this season with the Brewers.

>Bauers, who emerged as one of the team's unofficial spokesmen and philosophers throughout the season, uttered another famous expletive-tinged line when he said in August that the Brewers simply needed to "chill the f*** out a little bit."

>The Brewers had just gotten swept by San Diego on their way to play four games in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. Milwaukee won three of four in that series in L.A., carried that momentum throughout the rest of the season and then past the same two foes in the postseason.

>

>"We get to L.A., win three, and I said, 'This is a damn good baseball team,'" Bauers said during the World Series celebration. "Sometimes it feels like the sky’s falling and it’s just not. And I just knew. We had the right team, we had the right players. It was just crunch time. You could feel it was gonna go in one direction or the other.

>"I was like, I got to say something. It was off the cuff, man, but I meant it. I meant it. This group was too good to be squeezing so tight. All we had to do was let go and trust each other."

>Now they're World Series champions, having gone 11-2 in the postseason and suffering both losses by one run apiece. And Bauers, who will have no lack of suitors once free agency begins, was a big part of the process.

>"I’m most proud of the way the lineup came together and bought into a singular approach," Bauers said. "One through nine. Throughout the entire season, the way they executed, it was f***ing exciting."
