BMA365 Bamberg Baskets sign Hason Ward

(Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images) | Getty Images BAMBERG, Germany — Bamberg Baskets announced Monday that the club has completed its roster for the upcoming season with the signing of former Cyclone Hason Ward to a one-year contract. He arrives in Bamberg following a July appearance in the NBA Summer League with GSW Blue.

The addition of the 25-year-old arrives exactly one week before the team begins training in “Freak City”.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Ward, who is 6-foot-9, arrives with a reputation as a high-level defender and rim protector developed through the NBA G League and international play.

class="wp-block-paragraph">“I’m really looking forward to Freak City and can’t wait to get started with the team,” Ward said in a statement released by the club. “Bamberg is known for its historic city, its great organization and the great level of basketball played there. The fans can look forward to a team player who loves competition and has a great desire to achieve something in the coming season.”

class="wp-block-paragraph">Ward’s professional path most recently took him through the NBA G League with the Maine Celtics. During the 2025-26 season, he averaged 10.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 56% from the field. His tenure in Maine was highlighted by a 2024-25 campaign where he averaged two blocks per game and recorded five double-doubles.

Beyond North America, Ward briefly joined the Italian first-division side Umana Reyer Venezia in April 2026.

class="wp-block-paragraph">He has also been a standout for the Rwandan National Team, where he holds dual citizenship. During the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket, Ward had averages of 12.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.

His resume also includes a stint in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) with the Scarborough Shooting Stars, where he once recorded seven blocks in a single game.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Born in Saint Thomas, Barbados, Ward did not prioritize basketball until a trip to visit family in Massachusetts, where his height caught the eye of a local high school coach. He eventually moved to Springfield, Massachusetts, and made national headlines in high school by blocking 22 shots in a single game against Weaver High School.

At the collegiate level, Ward played three seasons for Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), earning a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team. He finished his college career at Iowa State University, where he helped the Cyclones win the Big 12 tournament and reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2024.
