Canada coach Marsch gives strange interview after Morocco World Cup loss

Jesse Marsch does not lack confidence despite losing 3-0 to Morocco during the World Cup round of 16.

>On Saturday, the Canadian coach and his team had few answers during their World Cup defeat to Morocco. What started as a very tense match with six first-half yellow cards ended as a scoring party for The Atlas Lions. Morocco scored all three goals during the second half. Still, Marsch doubled down on his team's efforts in Houston.

>"We were the better team," Marsch said on Fox after the game. "They made a couple more plays than us, but cranking up the intensity was not the issue. It was just they have a little quality (in) the final third, and we lacked a little ability to make a play when we needed to."

— FOX Sports (@FOXSports) July 4, 2026Marsch lauded his team for its effort, though it wasn't able to convert a plethora of first-half chances. Yet, he also made a head-turning assertion.

>"What a great team," Marsch said. "I'd rather be us than them. As good as Morocco is, I'd rather be us ... I'm really proud of our guys. We went after the game. They're hurting right now, but my goodness, I couldn't be prouder."

>Morocco’s head coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, was not on the same page with Marsch's assessment, though he did acknowledge Canada's "intensity" in the match.

>“It takes some nerve to say that when you lose 3-0,” Ouahbi said.

>Marsch also did not want to immediately have cameras in his postgame huddle following the loss. He shooed away a nearby camera person as he gathered his players.
