>The honeymoon period between Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets appears to be facing early turbulence. After entering the 2025-26 season with high expectations, Houston's season ended in disappointment following a first-round playoff exit to the Los Angeles Lakers. Since then, speculation surrounding Durant's long-term future with the franchise has continued to intensify.

>Reports indicate that multiple teams have already contacted the Rockets to inquire about Durant's availability this offseason, with the Detroit Pistons among the interested franchises. According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, Detroit has explored the possibility of pairing Durant with franchise star Cade Cunningham, although those conversations have not advanced beyond preliminary interest.

>“To this point, there have not been continued, active discussions regarding Durant on the trade block. Pistons have shown interest in the idea of adding him next to Cade. Nothing has progressed past such,” Siegel reported.

>Houston has already been involved in high-level trade discussions that included Durant. Reports revealed that the Rockets, Boston Celtics, and Detroit Pistons previously explored a blockbuster three-team framework before Boston ultimately traded Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in a blockbuster deal.

>Under the proposed structure, Durant would have landed in Detroit, franchise center Alperen Sengun would have joined the Celtics, and Brown would have been sent to Houston.

>For now, Durant remains a member of the Rockets. But uncertainty continues to surround his future. Houston must now decide whether to move forward with its current core for the 2026-27 season or capitalize on Durant's significant trade value before he moves closer to unrestricted free agency in 2027.
