Everything Texas Longhorns OT Trevor Goosby said at SEC Media Days

Texas Longhorns left tackle Trevor Goosby is one of the best offensive tackles in the nation. Other than Arch Manning, Goosby might be the most important player on offense. The junior from Melissa, Texas is projected to be a top five pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Now, Goosby is ready for a season that could make him a household name across college football.

>Here is everything Trevor Goosby said during his press conference at SEC Media Days:

>Q. This is your fourth year with the Longhorns. Why did you choose Texas? What's made you stay with the portal being so popular recently?

>Trevor Goosby: I think just the coaching. When I first got here, I was originally committed to TCU. I went on my official to Texas. And just kind of hearing what Coach Flood had to say and how he broke down my film, that's kind of what got me to Texas. And that's what has had me stay at Texas despite the transfer portal.

>Q. What things have you done in this offseason as an offensive line unit to kind of just increase the physicality at the line of scrimmage? A lot of talk last year about just not being strong enough at the point of attack. I know it's not a strength issue. So what things, maybe technique wise or just drill wise, have y'all encouraged?

>Trevor Goosby: I think it's more of a mental thing. Like mentality thing rather than a technique thing. Obviously, we're gonna do our technique drills and do our individual and stuff.

>But for me personally, sometimes I'll bring the guys in and we'll watch plays where it didn't work because of us. And plays where we needed to be more physical and just kind of pushing that narrative to the guys. That's kind of the biggest thing that we've done this offseason.

>Q. When you look at your goals, obviously team is at the top. What individual goals do you want to meet so you get to those team goals?

>Trevor Goosby: I think for me, I think it starts with the team goals and just the aspirations we have as a team. And Coach Sark says all the time, team success brings individual accolades.

>Hopefully if we accomplish what we say we want to accomplish, then I'll be able to win those individual goals.

>Q. It's hard to ignore. I can see the pin on your shoulder says "Every 15 minutes." Can you just explain what that is and what that means?

>Trevor Goosby: Yeah, so every 15 minutes a child is born with a congenital heart defect. So I was one of those kids. When I was 16 years old, I had heart surgery for an ASD. It was a tough time for me. And just kind of getting back from that, I understood -- it took a toll on me mentally. And it was hard.

>Now that I have this platform, I just want to be able to bring awareness to this because I feel like it's something that's not talked about often and just be a pillar for these kids that are going through it and be a pillar for the confidence of these kids, just knowing they're not alone in this journey.

>Q. What things have you seen out of the transfers Laurence Seymore, Melvin Siani, obviously, and then you've got Dylan Sikorski, others. What have you seen from them in the offseason that's encouraged y'all are going to be a more stronger, more deep unit in 2026?

>Trevor Goosby: I think to start off, they've brought us closer, I feel like. Despite them being transfers, they brought us all closer as an offensive line. Melvin and Laurence are one of my best friends on the team in such a short amount of time. They just brought the cohesiveness of the O line together.

>And just that athleticism. Melvin is really quick on his feet, really athletic tackle. Laurence is a really tenacious, athletic run blocker, pass blocker, obviously, for Western Kentucky. All-American for a reason.

>Q. Trevor, Sark was talking about some of the new additions to the staff. Going back to spring ball the addition of Coach Muschamp and Coach Juluke coming in in terms of physicality, the intensity of practice, how have those two guys specifically changed things, whether you guys are doing team period or inside run whatever it is? How much have they helped improve or amplify the physicality of on both sides of the ball?

>Trevor Goosby: They just bring the energy every day. The Coach Muschamp that you guys have seen the last couple years, like the last couple decades, he's still that guy. He's just a little bit older now.

>And then Coach Juluke is always bringing that energy with the running backs. And I can really feel it from the running back group. They're always bringing that energy.

>And all that energy brought to inside run and team, it just makes us play with more energy and play more physical.

>Q. What are the difficulties of blocking Collin Simmons?

>Trevor Goosby: He's a slippery guy. For me, it's like guarding somebody. It's like in basketball, playing defense in basketball. He's super fast. He has great twitch and great bend. And ultimately, he's just an elite pass rusher.

>And he gets me better every day. It's such a blessing going against him every day because it helps me prepare for SEC games and schedules in the future.

>Q. Parker Livingstone transferring from Texas to OU, what's it going to be like to face a former teammate in October?

>Trevor Goosby: It will be good to see him. But that was kind of his decision going from Texas to OU. And that's kind of with him. That's kind of a him thing.

>Q. On that note, Coach had that same question and he said he wants to kick Parker's ass -- excuse my language. But he also mentioned the after A&M game, the Mike Elko video that played, he wasn't a fan of that either, just mentioning how he feels the emotions in the rivalry game is very important and he feels like that's why y'all have been so successful during those rivalry games. When it comes to this team, why has the emotions been checked so well going against OU, Texas A&M, the Arkansases of the world?

>Trevor Goosby: I think just understanding the caliber of school that we're at. And Texas is a powerhouse. And everybody knows about Texas. We have to be able to control our emotions because we're gonna get everybody's best shot. So ultimately we have to put our best foot forward every single week. That's kind of how we've checked our emotions and have regulated it.

>Q. When you went back and looked at the run game specifically last year, just from your individual perspective and an O line perspective, what did you feel like either didn't click or needed to change? And do you feel like the work you guys have done from January up until now, do you feel you guys have taken the steps you need to have the kind of run game you want?

>Trevor Goosby: I feel like sometimes, first and foremost, we weren't physical enough. Obviously we weren't moving bodies the way that we should have. And then sometimes I always felt like we were just kind of playing as five individuals rather than five as one. And everybody was kind of -- it was just kind of five offensive linemen out there rather than one offensive line unit. That's kind of how I felt about last year.

>Like I said, with the cohesion of the O line off the field, we're such a tight group this year that I feel like it will show all on the field.

>Q. Fast-forward to a September in Austin. It's hard. You're there at Memorial Stadium. Everybody's yelling "Hook 'em horns," they're in burnt orange. Bevo's at the front. You're in the tunnel. Isn't your first rodeo. But do you still get goosebumps?

>Trevor Goosby: Oh, absolutely. Most definitely. I don't take any of these moments for granted. The fans are awesome. They're always rowdy at DKR. I'm so grateful for them, and just the environment is electric. That's one of those moments that sometimes you want to die for it, so...

>Q. You're a Twitch streamer now. Where did that come about? What made you start doing that? Is that something you enjoy doing?

>Trevor Goosby: Yeah, I love doing it. I feel like I have a great personality whether that's playing video games or doing reactions and just watching other streamers do it, other big streamers. I feel like as a family, my older brother and I, we love to do it. We just feel like we can create something out of it.

>Q. Can you talk a little bit about the tight end room? A lot of guys fighting for rotation there, still figuring out the pecking order. What have you seen if you want to mention maybe a thing about a couple of them, if you don't mind?

>Trevor Goosby: Yeah, with our tight end room, obviously we've got a bunch of talented guys -- Spencer Shannon, you've got Michael Masunas and Nick Townsend, Emaree Winston, those guys. Really just kind of a development for not only the pass game, but also the run game, and just getting more physical. We're getting a lot more out of those guys, for sure. Coach Banks and Coach Casula la have done a great job of really bringing those guys along.

>Q. Coach mentioned in his big press conference that he brought you and Arch and calling all three guys out of high school, coming to Texas, no portal guy there, and when you and Arch specifically came when the 8-5 season and here you are now upperclassmen coming to SEC Media Days. You also mentioned you had a scavenger hunt yesterday. So who won the scavenger hunt, and how important is it to you that you guys are the foundation of this program?

>Trevor Goosby: That's still up for debate. We've still got guys that are going to court with Judge Becton. Guys are still trying to fight for their winning cause. But I think it means a lot to us because of just how much the University of Texas means to us. You know Arch, Colin and I. Just kind of me personally, I'm a third-generation Longhorns. My grandparents went here. My parents went here. Obviously now I'm here.

>So Texas has always had a place in my heart. Now I'm just glad that I'm able to represent this football team here at SEC Media Day.
