The New York Jetsbegan OTAs earlier this week. A number of players have already made standout plays. One of the bigger unfortunate news update items was revealed when head coach Aaron Glenn said first-round pick Kenyon Sadiq recently underwent a minor surgery to repair a hernia issue.
>The setback will keep Sadiq off the practice field at OTAs, possibly until training camp. That provides the other tight ends on the roster with opportunities to impress and step up to the plate. Veteran tight end Jelani Woods recently took advantage at the Jets' first open-to-the-media OTA practice.
>Jets reserve quarterback Bailey Zappe hit Woods in tight coverage on 11-on-11 simulated team drills, according to Zack Rosenblatt. Zappe also found the veteran tight end on the sideline for a nice completion. Rosenblatt also noted that rookie quarterback Cade Klubnik hit Woods twice during 7-on-7.
>The Jets claimed Woods off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts last August. The once-promising third-round pick has suffered a string of injuries throughout his career. Woods appeared in four games for the Jets last season, making one catch. He notched 25 receptions for 312 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie with the Colts in 2022, but did not play in 2023 or 2024.
>Woods faces an uphill battle to make the Jets' 53-man roster. They have Sadiq, Jeremy Ruckert, and Mason Taylor at the position. With Sadiq currently sidelined, Woods is taking advantage of the extra reps.
