— FOX Sports (@FOXSports) June 30, 2026The goal was Mbappé’s 17th overall in the World Cup and broke a tie with Germany’s Miroslav Klose for the second-most all-time. Klose entered the 2026 World Cup as the record holder for most career goals in the tournament, but he was quickly passed by Messi after his hat trick in Argentina’s first game against Algeria and a brace against Austria.
>Messi added another goal to his total in Argentina’s group-stage finale against Jordan and currently sits two goals ahead of Mbappé with 19.
>Mbappé scored five goals in the knockout rounds of the 2022 World Cup. He had a hat trick in the final against Argentina after scoring twice in France’s Round of 16 win over Poland. In 2018, as France won the World Cup, Mbappe scored twice against Argentina in a Round of 16 win before adding a goal in a 4-2 win over Croatia in the final.
