Well before their heartbreak against Paraguay, Mirror US caught up with fans outside Boston's Gillette Stadium to gauge their opinions on the USA as a competing nation at the World Cup. Most were impressed.

>Mauricio Pochettino's side secured top spot in the group following victories over Paraguay and Australia. Nine changes were made for the match against Turkiye, resulting in a 3-2 defeat. But in the grand scheme of things, it was not a major concern.

>Bosnia is next up for the USA. A win there would set up a last-16 clash against Belgium or Senegal. Should they advance past that hurdle, Spain or Portugal would likely await in the quarterfinals.

>So while some believe they have a shot at reaching the semifinals, the majority are anticipating a quarterfinal run at this year's tournament.

>One fan sporting a Wirtz jersey told us, "I think the way to the semifinal is open for the US but all games will be tough. I don't know but they have a lot of chances to do it."

>Another added, "I am pretty sure they will get to the quarters, maybe the semis. But my favorites this year, Argentina is very strong, France is very strong, Spain is always strong."

They lose against Turkey, it doesn't matter, like us against Ecuador.

>"They win against Paraguay 4-1, very good. We will see, they have not the strongest team now, maybe quarterfinal not more."

>His companion chimed in, "I think they have the advantage of hosting the World Cup so the fans will be crazy at the games.

>"In a World Cup the quality of players not only matter, the atmosphere, the fans, they will carry them so I think they can go far. But if it's enough for a final, I doubt it."

They might sneak into the semi-finals. Go USA!"

>A youngster with a flag draped over his shoulders, accompanied by his mother, offered, "I think they can go to the quarterfinals if they can pull this off against Bosnia."

>His mother added, "I wish them to advance. They look strong so, yeah, why not."

>Finally, one supporter with a notably strong German accent concluded, "Very far. We watched the game before coming over to the U.S. and we saw the crowds and happiness, and it's transferred from the team to the fans. I think it must be a quarterfinal minimum."
