Logan Thomas, 6 others to enter Virginia Tech to enter Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame

Former VT quarterback Logan Thomas headlines the class of seven. Here are all seven inductees:

Logan Thomas: Football • >Jerry Cheynet: Former head coach and facilities staff • >Chris Martin: Wrestling • >Kylie McGoldrick: Softball • >Yavgeniy Olhovsky: Men’s track & field • >Martina Schultze: Women’s track & field • >Murielle Tiernan: Women’s soccerThomas, a native of Lynchburg, Virginia, starred at Brookville High School and was listed as a high four-star prospect. Measuring in at 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, Thomas was initially listed as an athlete and expected to play tight end for the Hokies. However, he became Tyrod Taylor’s backup before taking over as the starting quarterback in 2011. Thomas started at quarterback for the Hokies for the next three seasons, breaking several school records.

class="wp-block-paragraph">For his college career, Thomas completed 693 passes, passed for 9,003 yards, with 52 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,359 yards and 24 touchdowns. Thomas was a part of a terrific 2009 recruiting class, that also featured David Wilson, James Gayle, Jayron Hosley and Antone Exum.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Thomas was a fourth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. After beginning his career as a quarterback, Thomas transitioned to tight end and enjoyed a 10-year career, with his best three seasons coming with the Washington Commanders from 2020-23.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Cheynet left his mark across multiple sports, serving as the head coach of four different sports: wrestling, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s golf. Cheynet even coached three at the same time from 1980-83. He coached men’s soccer from 1974-2001 and wrestling from 1974-1996. After retiring from coaching, he worked in the facilities department until 2025.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Martin graduated in 2001 as Virginia Tech’s all-time leader in wins and winning percentage.

class="wp-block-paragraph">McGoldrick was a four-year starter for the Hokies and was named All-ACC three times. She finished her collegiate career with a .318 batting average, 44 doubles, four triples, 30 home runs, 213 total hits, 139 runs scored and 128 RBIs.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Olhovsky was a two-time national runner-up in the pole vault.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Schultze had a dominant career with the Hokies, becoming a five-time ACC champion in the pole vault.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Tiernan was a three-time first-team All-ACC selection and is the program’s all-time leader in goals and points.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Congratulations to all these great Hokies who will be enshrined in the school’s Hall of Fame on October 3.
