Jun. 2—MINNEAPOLIS — Unseeded Becker didn't figure to be much of a match against No. 3 seed and perennial state boys tennis power Mayo.

>That proved to be true as the Spartans blasted Becker 7-0 Tuesday, winning every match in straight sets in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A state boys team tennis tournament at the University of Minnesota's Baseline Tennis Center.

>The Spartans moved to 20-1 this season and will play No. 2 seed Edina in Wednesday's 10 a.m. semifinals.

>The Mayo-Edina semifinal is a repeat of last year when the Hornets ultimately beat the Spartans 4-3 in a brilliant dual. The winner moves on to the 4 p.m. state championship and the loser to the third-place match at 2 p.m. All of the action is at the Baseline Tennis Center.

>Edina beat unseeded St. Thomas Academy 7-0 in one of the quarterfinals. No. 4 seed Mounds View beat No. 5 Eden Prairie 5-2 and No. 1 and three-time state defending champion Wayzata rolled to a 7-0 win over unseeded Blaine in the other quarterfinal.

>Mayo's lone loss this season was to Wayzata, 7-0.
