>The New York Mets are going to sell at the 2026 MLB trade deadline, and they have plenty of players who should be able to garner interest this summer.

>Of the potential trade targets, none stand out more than Freddy Peralta. The former All-Star right-handed starter is someone who should draw significant interest. That is, if it weren't for a terrible 4.99 ERA this season.

>Andy McCullough of The Athletic gave the Mets a bitter reality check, revealing that he would be stunned if the Mets found a way to recoup the value that they spent to acquire Peralta over the offseason in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers.

>He's a rental starter who has a 4.99 ERA this season. His 84 ERA+ is the worst mark of his MLB career, and with a 1.478 WHIP and allowing 9.5 hits-per-nine, the Mets starter is not having a good season whatsoever.

>Besides, his strikeouts-per-nine have dropped under 9.0 to an 8.9, more than two full strikeouts per-nine than his previous career-average heading into this season.

>All of that to say, the Mets are going to be hard-pressed to land a high-quality return for Peralta, let alone one close to what they gave up for him over the offseason.

>They should still be able to land something decent for Peralta, as he's still a starting pitcher with All-Star upside that had a 2.70 ERA and 17 wins just last season with the Brewers.

>But, unfortunately for the Mets, the ship has sailed, and there's just about no way for them to recoup the trade value spent to acquire Peralta.
