Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden is entering his Year 2 in the NFL, but it feels as though there is tremendous pressure on his shoulders already.
An unproductive rookie campaign in 2025 leaves many wanting to see more from the former Texas Longhorns star wideout, who also got hyped for being the first wide receiver in over two decades Green Bay selected in the first round of an NFL draft.
Golden was a a 23rd overall pick at the 2025 NFL Draft, and while he’s shown flashes of immense potential on the field last season, he only had 361 receiving yards with zero touchdowns on 29 catches and 44 targets through 14 games. It was not until the NFL playoffs that he finally punched in a score in the end zone.
>Still, the hope remains high that Golden will finally have a breakout season in 2026, and among those confident in his abilities to do so is none other than fellow wide receiver Jayden Reed.
Packers WR Reed believes 2026 is going to be Golden’s yearOn Tuesday, Reed talked to the media and spent some time touching on his outlook for the 22-year-old Golden.
>“It’s gonna be a huge jump for MG [Matthew Golden], man,” Reed told reporters (via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic).
“You can tell the game is slowing down for him. He’s learning to play, he’s much better. You can tell he’s just more comfortable out there. And I can speak from my point of view, me going into year two, it was way more smooth, just even knowing the playbook. So you can tell he’s gaining that confidence, and he’s gonna be dangerous for this offense.”

>With Romeo Doubs leaving Green Bay and signing with the New England Patriots in free agency and Dontayvion Wicks getting traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, a big opporunity has opened up for Golden to shine downfield.
>Reed is counting on that to happen.
