>The Philadelphia Phillies played one of the wildest games of the entire 2026 MLB season on Tuesday night, as they came back from down two in the ninth inning with two outs to score eight in the top of the ninth and win 14-9 over the Washington Nationals.
>But, while the focus was on the comeback from the Phillies, there was another wild statistic from this game for the Phillies from Jesus Luzardo that made MLB history.
>As Cole Weintraub of NBC Sports Philadelphia shared, Luzardo's outing with 13 strikeouts and five earned runs allowed was the first of its kind since earned runs became an official statistic in 1913.
Jesus Luzardo makes MLB history, never seen since at least 1913"Jesus Luzardo is the first pitcher to record 13+ strikeouts, allow 5+ earned runs, and not surrender an extra-base hit in a start since ER became an official MLB stat in 1913," Weintraub shared.
>This is some wild history from Luzardo, as the left-handed starter for the Phillies went 6.2 innings, allowing six hits and three walks along with five earned runs while striking out 13 batters.
>But Luzardo didn't give up an extra-base hit. All six hits were singles. Nationals hitters didn't record a double, triple, or homer off Luzardo during his outing.

>As Weintraub shared, this is the only time in MLB history, since earned runs became an official statistic in 1913, that a pitcher has allowed five or more earned runs while not giving up an extra base hit and striking out at least 13 batters.
>On 104 pitches, Luzardo had a very strange outing, as his five earned runs don't tell the story. He realistically should've had fewer earned runs if the defensive positioning were better, or the defense itself were better.
>Even so, Luzardo's start on Tuesday night, which wound up being part of one of the wildest games of the season, was a one-of-a-kind outing for the left-hander.
