>The Philadelphia Phillies are heading into the 2026 MLB trade deadline with three very clear needs. Those needs are a right-handed hitting outfielder, a starting pitcher, and a back-end reliever.

>Of these three needs, there is one that's become a much more pressing issue than before. Brad Keller, the Phillies' $22 million reliever they signed this past offseason, just went on the injured list with a UCL tear in his right elbow. He might miss all of 2026 and 2027.

>With that injury in mind, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer proposed a trade idea that would have the Phillies land San Diego Padres closer Mason Miller, and in exchange, give up two valuable prospects.

Phillies trade idea lands Mason Miller for two valuable prospects"Trade Proposal: Philadelphia Phillies get RHP Mason Miller; San Diego Padres get RHP Gage Wood (MLB No. 35), OF Francisco Renteria (MLB No. 85)," Rymer proposed.

>This trade idea from Rymer would be a massive one for the Phillies, as they'd be giving up two very valuable prospects. Wood just pitched in the Futures Game, and Renteria is only 17 years old, but has been thriving in his early professional career.

>However, they wouldn't be giving up Aidan Miller, their top prospect, and would be getting the best reliever in baseball, who could be on the move this summer.

>Miller, the two-time All-Star and 27-year-old flame-thrower, has a 0.91 ERA this season with 2.2 bWAR, 25 saves, and 72 strikeouts in 39.2 innings pitched in 38 outings.

>Adding Miller would give the Phillies a ridiculous reliever duo, with Jhoan Duran closing games and Miller as the set-up man.

>With Cristopher Sanchez, Zack Wheeler, and Jesus Luzardo, the Phillies should have five of the best pitchers in the NL all on their roster. That's a massive advantage.

>The cost might be a bit expensive, but the Phillies having Miller and Duran in the same bullpen would be absolutely terrifying for opposing teams.

>This isn't a realistic trade idea, as the availability of Miller would surely spark a bidding war, and this package of prospects might not be enough to land the Padres closer.

>But if Dave Dombrowski and company knew they could get Miller for this price, it would be a very tempting deal that would be hard to walk away from. It's not realistic, but it's a fun hypothetical.
