After the recent, sudden retirement of wide receiver Parris Campbell, the Dallas Cowboys have a vacant spot on their 90-man roster and on the wide receiver depth chart. While not a signing, they are bringing in former SMU and Miami Hurricane receiver Romello Brinson for a workout on Monday, the first day of Phase 3 of their offseason program, OTAs.

>The news was first broken by KPRC2's Aaron Wilson. Brinson is the teammate of another WR who is currently trying to make the Cowboys, UDFA signing Jordan Hudson.

— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) June 1, 2026Brinson is a 6-foot-2, 188-pound receiver, flashing the size the Cowboys covet at the position, though his production in college failed to impress. During his time at Miami and SMU, Brinson played in 52 games, but totaled just 92 catches for 1,393 yards, averaging 14.2 yards per catch, with six career touchdowns.

>His last season with SMU was Brinson's best, with 43 catches for 638 yards, averaging 53.2 yards per game and three touchdowns. According to Joseph Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News, Dallas had dinner with Brinson after SMU's Pro Day. So the Cowboys did have some interest in the young receiver this offseason. Brinson would bring some RAC ability in the passing game, something he excelled at in college.

>He's also a big-bodied blocker in the running game, and a long-stride receiver capable of stretching the field and catching passes over smaller defenders. There's no guarantee Brinson is signed or makes the final roster, but he would provide Dallas another camp body who helps preserve their starting receivers. If he can come in and be a competent rotational receiver for the Cowboys and make plays on special teams, Brinson has a chance to push for a spot on the practice squad, where he can further develop at receiver.
