It’s moving day at Royal Birkdale as the contenders assemble for a fascinating third round at The Open.

>Friday saw plenty of low scoring and a dollop of controversy, with Australia’s Lucas Herbert and the USA’s Sam Burns, a growing major force, shooting 62s to surge into contention.

>Bryson DeChambeau looked perfectly poised, too, only to be hit with a two-stroke penalty after an incident on the fifth – the two-time major winner has confirmed he will play this weekend, though admitted he had been “fired up” by the decision.

>He’ll be off alongside Burns in the third from last group, with Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Tommy Fleetwood and Jon Rahm among those right in the mix but needing a strong Saturday to challenge.
