West Texas A&M softball beaten by Saint Leo in NCAA D2 semifinals

The No. 6 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs ended their softball season with a 5-4 loss to the top-ranked Saint Leo Lions. The game was played Sunday, May 31, at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee, during the semifinals of the NCAA Division II College World Series.

>West Texas A&M got on the scoreboard first in the fourth inning. Abby Howell hit a double that drove in Jordyn De Los Santos. Later in the same inning, Brooke Janning hit a single that allowed Lily Mulder to score, giving the Lady Buffs a 2-0 lead.

>In the fifth inning, Briley Daniels scored on an errant throw during a steal attempt, increasing the lead to 3-0. Saint Leo responded in the sixth inning with a run, making it 3-1.

>The Lions rallied in the seventh inning, starting with two consecutive base hits. A three-run homer by Hailey Beuerlein gave Saint Leo a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Bella Holland tied the game for West Texas A&M with a single up the middle.

>The game went into extra innings, and in the 10th inning, Saint Leo's Alexis Barber hit a solo home run to left field, securing the victory for the Lions. Laci Peskey took the loss for the Lady Buffs, allowing one earned run on one hit in 3⅓ innings of relief.
