Former Texans legend DeAndre Hopkins joins Georgia Tech's coaching staff

Former Houston Texans All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has found himself a new home before the start of the 2026 NFL season.

>According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Georgia Tech is expected to hire Hopkins as a member of the program’s offensive staff for the upcoming season. The former Clemson Tigers All-ACC wide receiver will work closely with new Yellow Jackets offensive coordinator George Godsey.

>Godsey, the Texans' former offensive coordinator from 2015-2016, was also on staff with Hopkins as the tight ends coach with the Baltimore Ravens. He was inlfuential in helping Hopkins choose Baltimore as his destination last season following a run with the Kansas City Chiefs.

— Matt Zenitz (@mzenitz) July 31, 2026Hopkins, who previously spent a week working alongside the New England Patriots, said earlier in the offseason he would like to play for a contender this season as he enters his 14th season. The problem? The 34-year-old pass-catcher seems not to have any suitors for the time being and could be looking toward the next option in his playing career.

>Last season, the former five-time All-Pro wideout recorded just 22 catches for 330 yards and two touchdowns and had a career-low 39 targets across 17 games. He played in the Super Bowl with Kansas City back in 2024, but after coming up short against the Philadelphia Eagles, the once-top target is still looking for his first Lombardi Trophy before calling it a career.

>Hopkins also previously played with the Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans, surpassing 1,000 yards or more at least once with each franchise. He's yet to announce that he will retire, so if a team chooses to sign him, he could be back at practice by next week.

>Should this be the end for the 2013 first-round pick, Hopkins will finish with 1,006 career receptions for 13,295 yards with 85 touchdowns in 195 games. A five-time Pro Bowler, Hopkins remains one of the best players in the Texans' franchise history.

>Over his seven seasons with the Texans, he caught 632 passes for 8,602 yards and 54 touchdowns. Hopkins still ranks second all-time in every receiving category for Houston, trailing only Hall of Famer Andre Johnson.

>The Texans open the regular season against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 13.
