>Two games behind the Minnesota Vikings for the NFC North lead, the Detroit Lions are set to host their rivals on Sunday afternoon. In the first matchup between the longtime foes this fall, a Lions win would not only cut into the Vikings’ lead but also end their undefeated start. However, Detroit’s offense might be without two of its biggest stars this weekend. According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter on X (formerly Twitter), Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown missed Wednesday’s practice.

>“Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs (shoulder) and WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) were listed as non-participants at today’s practice,” reported Schefter.

>Winners of two in a row, including a 20-17 decision over another division rival in the Green Bay Packers, the Lions would improve to 5-2 with a victory Sunday. Furthermore, the Vikings’ division lead would shrink to just one game as the midway point of the campaign approaches. In one of the NFL’s most competitive divisions, every little advantage, like a record against a division rival, can help.

>Gibbs and St. Brown are two of the most pivotal pieces of the Lions’ offense. Alongside quarterback Jared Goff, the trio has been instrumental in Detroit’s rise back to contention under head coach Dan Campbell. If the duo are unable to play Sunday against the Vikings, then the Lions’ task of defeating one of the NFL’s best defenses becomes much tougher. In a race to the postseason, every game counts. Will Gibbs and St. Brown be able to shake off their injuries and play Sunday? Or will Goff lose his most trusted weapons ahead of what could be a pivotal clash?
