The Texas Tech Red Raiders have officially named their starting quarterback after the departure of Brendan Sorsby. They've named Will Hammond the starter, Texas Tech's X account announced.
>The Red Raiders were dealt a bad hand with Sorsby becoming ineligible to play due to placing bets on college football games. Sorsby transferred to Texas Tech with draft pedigree after a solid season with the Cincinnati Bearcats.
>However, he had his eligibility revoked after an investigation found that he had placed more than 1,000 bets on multiple sporting events, including those he played in. He wagered over $6,000 on other college football games, placing over $90,000 in bets in total, and he even admitted to the wrongdoing.
>Originally, the NCAA ruled Sorsby eligible to play, much to the chagrin of several teams, but after a while, Texas Tech and Sorsby parted ways. That paved the way for Hammond to start this season.
>Hammond has played sparingly with the Red Raiders. Through 12 games, Hammond has 1,151 yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions. He came in for an injured Behren Morton midway through the Utah Utes game on Sept. 20 this past season.
