>World No 3 Cameron Young surged into a share of the lead of the Rocket Classic after a nine-under 61 in the second round in Detroit.

>Young climbed 68 spots to move to 10 under with his bogey-free round and shares a three-way lead with Patrick Cantlay and Patrick Fishburn.

>The two-time Open runner-up made seven birdies on his front nine and threatened to become just the second player, after Jim Furyk, to shoot two career sub-60 rounds.

>"It felt like I had a 10-footer for birdie on pretty much every hole. I made a bunch of them in a row on my first nine," said Young.

>"Then the putter kind of went cold a little bit for my second nine. Just really solid golf all the way through. Happy to have kind of played my way back in the tournament a little bit after Thursday."

>Young is now favourite heading into the weekend and will look to continue his great recent form that saw him finish runner-up at The Open two weeks ago.

>The 29-year-old won The Players Championship and Cadillac Championship earlier this year but has not been able to put together a string of strong results.

>"You wonder am I missing something, why is this the way that it is, why is it not working, all those things. But when it goes well, it feels totally the opposite," said Young.

>"When it goes well, it feels like you never will play bad again. It just comes and goes. You kind of have to be ready for either one.

>"At some point it's going to get harder and at some point you'll come out of that difficult period and it will feel easy again. It's kind of just a game of being ready for whatever comes next."

>England's Matt Wallace is only one shot behind after his bogey-free round of 64 and Rickie Fowler is on the same overall score of nine under.

>First-round leader Peter Malnati was unable to repeat his heroics from Thursday as he made one-over 71 but is one of eight players only two shots back, including two-time major champion Xander Schauffele.
